William & Harry : The Unseen Photos
How did it come to a Prince of the realm wanting to leave the UK with his new wife and decide to live in America, and vow not to return?
Harry’s recent relationship with the British press is now well known, his and William’s uncomfortable existence with the British tabloid newspapers is usually seen as starting with the death of their mother, Lady Diana Spencer. This series reveals the brother’s strained relationship with the tabloids started much earlier. With in-depth archive research the series tells the brothers’ story of this lasting discomfort with the British press with many unseen photos from the last 40 years. The series reveals how this difficulty with the press not only damaged their own sibling relationship but also threatened the future of the royal family.
Told with first hand testimony as the brothers’ story unfolds in front of them, royal photographers and picture editors portray a different perspective with their many unseen photos.
Episode 1 unravels the early roots of the brothers’ uneasy relationship with the press, the treatment of their mother and father in particular, disrupted family holidays, press calls they did not want to attend and the trauma of their mother’s death. How Lady Diana Spencer made the British Royal Family relevant and popular again, how the press became obsessed with her and how she used the press to her own advantage. William and Harry experienced how the press dominated their family lives and how Harry was treated differently to William from an early outset in front of the world’s media. Diana’s death was to transform the lives of brothers. Each story is told with new unseen photos alongside now world-famous photos.
Episode 2 picks up the boys in their late teens when the press sees them as fair game, the strain of living in the public eye becomes all to evident with Harry’s controversial early exploits, and William’s protecting his young family. By the time Harry marries Meghan the scene is set for a bitter battle for Harry with the press and his own family. The fallout is Harry leaving the country and his family, only to return to do the one thing the late Queen and King Charles have never wanted, to sue the British tabloids through the English courts.
Stories include Harry being caught in a deliberately divisive drug rehab story, William accused of being lazy, and tours to Australia, Lesotho and Malaysia.
